Colombia by Café Royal
Colombia by Café Royal makes a nice espresso with malty sweetness on the nose and lasting cocoa bitterness on the palate.
On the nose, there’s pleasant malty sweetness followed by cocoa bitterness. Light notes of peach and smoke also come through.
The lasting bitterness of roasted cocoa beans is complemented by light demerara sweetness and a hint of fruity acidity.
Mostly consistent extraction with an occasional loss of pressure. Crema is OK.
The box with elegant evocative design contains coloured plastic capsules with the typical Café Royal industrial look. Capsules are topped with aluminium foil which makes them non-biodegradable and difficult to recycle. The description on the box promises an espresso with harmoniously balanced fruity acidity. The intensity rating is 5/10.
This is a nice example of an espresso made of not too darkly roasted coffee. Café Royal used here single origin Colombian Arabica beans.
